i think this hopscotch rug from CB2 is so playful and fun…it’s not available anymore but it is SO DIYable for on-the-cheap! there are lots of options in decorating with this rug: you could make it retro and funky by putting it with some mid-century modern pieces, or very modern with some clean new modern furniture, or even in a kids room!
– buy a cheap plain colored rug, in whichever size and color you want for your room. make sure it’s not too light colored because you want the white hopscotch to be visible.
– get a half gallon or less of regular white wall paint, probably in a matte finish and a paint brush
– outline your hopscotch pattern with masking tape (plan to paint outside of the lines) – optional step, skip this if you think you can free-hand it.
– and paint it! the good thing is it’s supposed to look like chalk so the irregularity from the painting will look purposeful and cool. keep it simple, don’t go heavy-handed. let it dry, remove the tape and ta da!
