poor pore

cosmetosi’ve written before about my passion for healthy cosmetics here in my post “let’s talk stinky pits.” there are tons of unhealthy ingredients in so many cosmetics that are everywhere, even many that claim to be “natural.” the toxic ingredients are usually preservatives and thickeners or maybe sudsing agents or fragrance. it’s pretty insane that there aren’t more regulations that limit US companies from putting these harmful ingredients in the products that we put on our bodies every day and let soak into our bloodstream through our largest organ, our skin! one of the ingredients, that is really hard to avoid, but is actually an industrial anti-freeze, is Propylene Glycol, which is in a lot of supposedly “natural” products as a preservative but is known to cause “liver abnormalities and kidney damage.” for more reading on which chemicals are bad and why, go here.

my daily friends: i’ve tried lots of different safe products over the last few years and the above 9 are my favorites, which i use daily. the only place i still need to perfect my “safe” regime is shampoo, conditioner and hair color. i do use safe make-up (i’ll save that for a later post) but i’ve had a hard time finding hair care products that are safe that don’t make my hair dry, but i’m looking!! the Dr. Hauschka are the more pricey of the products that i use, but they last a while and the others are very affordable. the Throughly Clean Face Wash, Tea Tree Oil Cleansing Pads and Blemish Touch Stick are all by Desert Essence and i get mine at Trader Joes. the Lip Rescue is also Desert Essence and i like the Shea Butter one. Tom’s Of Maine toothpaste but get the SLS-free kind! Miessence deodorant, Normalizing Day Oil and Body Silk body powder by Dr. Hauschka. for body lotion my new fave find is from my local farmer’s market by MyEmagine and her Body Butter in Scorpio (with Patchouli, mmm, scent o’ hippie) or Angel (more tropical orange and vanilla)… i even use it as a hair mask! the following pics i took at today’s farmer’s market of her stand, but you can order online at
