one of my favorite looks is worn-in, well-loved, old, textured, layered, etc…if you can’t already tell by my jewelry designs. one of my favorite places in LA to shop is Liz’s Antique Hardware. i’ve spent well over an hour there on various occasions, perusing the aisles and bins of gorgeous old keys, hardware, chain, door knockers, key-holes, you name it! the textures and patinas have definitely influenced some of my jewelry designs and i also love to use some of the elements i buy there to decorate purses!
DIY: here is a vintage leather bag i got at some thrift store at some point. i boho’d it up by adding a flea market bought silk scarf ($1 i think, wore it on my jeans here) and then looped two pieces of antique discarded chain around the strap loop…i love the jingle when i walk! first, pick a purse you want to decorate, doesn’t have to be vintage, just one you want to spruce. if you don’t have an antique hardware store in your area you can order some on Ebay (just search ‘antique hardware’ or ‘antique hardware chain’). another option is to buy new chain, keys and hardware from the hardware store and rust them yourself by doing something like this. for silk scarves Etsy is a good place for some pretty vintage ones if you don’t want to buy locally. while you’re at it, Etsy has some great antique hardware too!
