global warming rug

a barcelona based eco- rug company ( Nanimaquina) teamed up with a mexican design collective (NEL) to create the global warming rug – a hand tufted, 100% wool piece.

both teams view carpets as devices of cultural communication and for this rug the topic is global warming. because carpets and rugs have been the site of story telling for centuries, the design teams have come up with a rug that tells a story within itself. the lonely felt polar bear stands alone on the vast ocean of carpet to remind us of the melting ice caps.

Nanimaquina is an eco-brand that was created with a second goal in mind besides manufacturing carpets.  they also strive towards eradicating child labor in the carpet industry and ensure that only adult artisans make their products.

this carpet forces us to visualize the reality of global warming, and who it is affecting first hand, or paw – the polar bears.
