the invisible man

a chinese artist by the name of liu bolin makes art by hiding in plain sight. his motivation for this project was to make a statement about his place in society. he views himself as an outsider and feels that people don’t understand or value his work.

using his body as a blank canvas, he paints himself with the help of an assistant to perfectly match himself against different backgrounds.  liu is also bringing attention to the way humans interact with their cities and their surrounding environments.

clearly his work requires a great deal of patience – sometimes getting one perfect shot can take more than ten hours.  he first chooses a background that he wants to blend with and stands still in the same position until he is painted to perfection.
