yarn art: paris & new york city

Juliana Santacruz Herrera has made the streets of paris the perfect place for her pothole project – or ‘Nid de Poule‘, which translates to pothole.

finding cracks and crevices all over the city to reinvent, herrera patches up these cement fractures in style with brightly colored yarn.

her work is similar to that of a polish artist by the name of olek – who also uses yarn for the sake of art.  most famous for her yarn covered bicycles and cars.  she loves movies and measures her art in movies, for example, it takes her 12 movies to crochet one bicycle.

she crochets EVERYTHING, even humans.  when i was living in new york, i remember walking around chelsea and seeing a man fully crocheted head to toe in yard, slowly walking.  now i know that was the work of olek!  she also once crocheted a man and had him ride the subway at the exact same time, everyday for a week, just to see people’s reactions.
