in the sixties and seventies, the president of yugoslavia – Josip Broz Tito – had 25 monuments constructed to commemorate the sites where world war two battles took place. put in place by the communist government, they were designed by a handful of artists, sculptors and architects. now they are abandoned monuments and are oddly futuristic and alien-like.
these monuments are basically giant gravestones, that mark the spots where many men died in battle during the war.
Belgian photographer Jan Kempenaers captured all these oddly creepy photographs of the huge sculptures and the project is titled “the end of history.”
