the leaf house was inspired by Brazil’s hot and humid climate. the house resides one hour south of Rio de Janeiro in Angra dos Reis. the roof is shaped like a giant leaf that shades and protects the outdoor open spaces of the house. designed by mareines + patalano architecture, the home is meant to encourage socialization in the outdoor spaces.
the roof is generously high and allows for natural ventilation and cooling. this tropical beach house was designed to make the interaction between man and nature flow as fluidly as possible. going so far as to eliminate hallways and fuse the outdoor and indoor spaces.
the outdoor pool snakes into the house and turns into a fishpond inside the dining room.
all natural materials have been used when possible to build the leaf house. the organic composition and architecture of the house create a very calming and serene landscape.
