we are given yet another reason to love coffee! Re-worked – a United Kingdom based design company – gives coffee grounds a new meaning – as furniture! Re-worked specializes in sustainable design and green technology. upcycling at its finest!
the designers of Re-worked have entitled the project Curface (pronounced surface) and it starts with a composite board made from recycled coffee grounds and other recycled plastic waste. in their description, Curface has “a very high quality tactile finish reminiscent of a combination of chocolate, leather and stone.”
so far it’s been molded into chairs, tables, and benches and currently, Re-worked is in the process of creating a cafe using only the Curface furniture. did I mention the material is Scratch-proof and water-proof!? this inventive way to channel waste into good looking furniture should be an inspiration to all furniture designers. just look how these people made something so awesome out of boring coffee grinds…. i mean, i do love coffee.
to keep down the company’s carbon footprint, the Curface board is made entirely within the UK – . the material they have created from coffee grounds can be translated to many different mediums. their website boasts “we know the material so if you need anything from a coffee cup to entire cafe designing or building, we can do it.” pretty awesome that they have the confidence to make a building out of this stuff!
