Nike-Reuse-A-Shoe is a program dedicated to giving worn-out sneakers a new life in many different forms. the team collects your old shoes and recycles them into a material that can be used to make playgrounds, courts and tracks for people to exercise and play on. through this whole process of turning something old into something new, and bettering communities on the way, the program has kept over 25 million trashed sneaks out of landfills. this not only helps humans, but our environment as well!
the old kicks you donate get recycled into “Nike Grind” – where they grind it up and smooth it out on sports surfaces and playgrounds. Nike is also working to use more of this material in their products.
Nike Reuse-A-Shoe is currently running a Facebook Photo contest — participate by taking a picture of your shoes (worn-out, new, dirty, clean… of any brand) and uploading it to the Nike Reuse-A-Shoe Facebook Page
[ http://on.fb.me/WinNikeGear ]
the five most creative submissions will be selected and will win a $100 gift card towards purchasing new Nike gear. submissions must follow the rules of course … the rules are:
1. Submit a photo that is your own – no image searching or copying, please.
2. Make it a close-up of your shoes so we can get a good look. To protect your privacy, we won’t be able to accept photos that include your or anyone else’s face.
3. Keep it clean.
the contest ends October 17th so get cracking!
if you want to be involved with Nike Reuse-A-Shoe, or donate any of your old sneakers – there are locations all over the US. basically all US and Converse Nike stores are drop off locations, as well as your local community recycling center. so step up and get kick in some kicks!
