this Japanese design firm sure knows how to manage space! this structure, called ‘House in Horinouchi’ is a two-story home for a family of three. it’s located in Suginami, Tokyo, Japan. the plot of land is planted right in-between a river and a road, and is an odd triangular shape. because of zoning and building regulations in tokyo, the architects had to be extra creative in order to design a space that works in this plot of land. the architecture firm is called Mizuishi Architect Atelier.
i think is this one of the best tiny houses ever! from the pictures, it really does appear to be more spacious that it looks from the outside. they used the triangular shape to their advantage and it gives the house a modern look without even trying very hard. the bedroom rests at the bottom level, while the kitchen and dining room are on the second. the loft space on top overlooks the kitchen and dining space, which can be accessed by a ladder.
the architects definitely make use of natural light. there is a giant skylight in the loft, but there are also large windows that take in a good amount of light. the entire second floor is basically windows, which opens up the space and lets in a great amount of light. privacy must not be an issue for the family who lives here!
