how cool is this?! an architect by the name of Chau Truong (works at commune with my friends Philippa and Erin) has designed his hollywood apartment out of amazing DIY’s and handmade furniture. in his bedroom, he painted one wall black, leaving the other 3 white. he installed a few small ledges at different heights along the wall and then uses different colored spools of thread and pulls them down at various lengths to create awesome colored strings against the black wall. this DIY is great because you can choose your color scheme to match (or not match!) your room.
the second DIY in this bedroom his under his bed. instead of a traditional bed frame, chau used cinderblocks to uplift his mattress. a while back i did a post on using cinderblocks around the house – check it out here. chau’s bedroom was an inspiration for that post, but i never expanded past talking about the cinderblocks.
What You Need:
paint (for the wall and for the wood ledges)
spools of thread
now that wasn’t so hard was it! this is on-the-cheap, quick and easy, and incredibly unique. i’ve never seen something so simple like this draw so much attention to one wall. the rest of his bedroom is minimal – but this wall makes up for it entirely. from far away you can’t quite tell what is hanging off the ledges, but when you get up-close you realize how creative and cool it really is!
