if you’ve ever asked yourself where do old doors end up?… i have the answer! South Korean artist Choi Jeong-hwa is an art director/architect/furniture designer/event planner, who transformed a 10-story building into a brightly colored, mismatched art piece. using only found objects – those objects being abandoned doors – he transformed the building, giving it a vibrant and eye catching facade.
from far away, this massive art piece doesn’t even look like a building. Jeong-hwa encourages South Koreans to re-think art. art isn’t only found in galleries and museums – it surrounds us everywhere, even on the face of a building.
Jeong-hwa used 1000 recycled doors for this public installation. when he was younger, he couldn’t draw or paint, and often found himself walking around the city taking photographs of trash and weird discarded objects. to Jeong-hwa, THIS IS art!
