world’s largest chocolate temple

Share

chocolate lovers behold, this 18,000 pound chocolate structure – modeled after the Mayan temples.  an entire team of builders and pastry experts – led by Chefs Francois Mellet and Stephane Treand – recreated a traditional Mayan temple, in the form of everyone’s favorite sweet.  this temple just broke the Guinness world record for largest chocolate structure.

the base of the structure is 10 x 10 and each level is a little smaller than the one below it – making it like the traditional Mayan structures. it’s 10 stories high and six feet tall.

18, 239 pounds of molten chocolate was carefully poured into each separate level of them temple.  each step was hand-carved and adorned with little Mayan men, who were also made from chocolate.

if you live in the LA area, you can go visit the pyramid at the Qzina institute of chocolate and pastry in Irvine, California.  it’s going to be on display until the end of the Mayan calendar December 21, 2012…. perfect timing.
