artist spotlight: Motoi Yamamoto saltscapes

Motoi Yamamoto has taken salt of the table and turned it into art! his intricate mazes and labyrinths made entirely out of salt display not only a lot of patience, but also an incredible imagination and devotion to his work.

each Yamamoto design is improvised from start to finish, and each time a saltscape is installed, it is completely different than the previous show.

Yamamoto was inspired to create art from salt after losing his sister to brain cancer. in Japan, people throw salt at a funeral to ward off evil spirits and his work grew from that concept. after  hundreds of hours of pouring and shaping, his pieces are quite amazing! don’t you think?
