design inspo: decorating with crystals

I’ve recently renewed my interest in crystals. I say ‘renewed’ because when I was little I used to collect rocks and crystals which I posted about here. Crystals are powerful little (or big) buggers. They contain their own energy since they are formed by the earth and possess healing qualities and balancing powers, according to some people. I like the notion that they can reduce the intensity of EMF (Electromagnetic Frequencies) that are around us from all of the technology and electricity we use.

Thus, for those reasons and the fact that crystals are beautiful, sparkly and organic works of art, I think they’re the perfect accessories for your home!

Here I styled a pretty rose quartz crystal, I recently got at a gem show, on a thrifted silver coaster next to my flea-market-find momma and baby giraffe. This sits in the middle of our dining table and I like the contrast of the polished metal with the rustic stone.

Everyone needs a jewelry box! These two are by Kelly Wearstler. (Check out last week’s DIY jewelry box and a tour of my very own jewelry box featured on Refinery29)

You can always display your rocks in a vintage letterpress and hang on the wall!

Rocks and crystals I put in a vase and keep in my bathroom — from a previous post on DIY: decorating with rocks and seashells.

Last but not least, there’s always the rock crystal bathtub made by designer Luca Bojola for Italian company Baldi (costing around $800,000… mmkay). This tub is cut from a large solid piece of rock crystal found in the Amazonian rainforest.
