Violette Asks: What is the best way to style chambray shirts without looking like a bad 90’s flashback?
My Answer: Hi Violet! I love chambray and have a few chambray articles of clothing in m’ wardrobe. Chambray is “a lightweight clothing fabric with colored warp and white filling yarns” and is usually in a light blue color that mimics denim but is thinner and softer. I like how lightweight chambray shirts are and are super easy to layer with blazers, etc. Here are two outfits I put together with a collared chambray shirt. You can see other outfit variations, where I didn’t pair the shirt with a jacket in: OOTD: canadian tuxedo and OOTD: denim after dark.
- Don’t mind the ominous stare, I’m just preoccupied with my love of chambray! For the first outfit, I did a casual work/school look and paired the shirt untucked with printed shorts in a lightweight fabric and made the outfit playful by mixing prints with a seersucker blazer. Strappy sandals and my chunky Petal to the Metal necklace worn outside the collar completes the look!

- Do the chambray jig! For the second outfit I did a laid back work/weekend/whatever look tucking the chambray shirt into a pair of slouchy “track” slacks, un-bottoning a few buttons (hubba hubba) and throwing on a faux, studded leather jacket. Weird heels, a fist-full of Feather Wrap rings and black sunnies complete the look!
