With Valentine’s Day coming up, some of you are planning dates out on the town, some of you are hanging with friends or yourself or your pets and some of you may want to get beyond the pre-fixe menus and crowds of couples and make a romantic night of it at home. If home is where the heart is, here are my three easy tips to romanticize your home to ensure you have the bestest and smoochiest time in your own nest.

  • Sweet Treats and Decor. Decorate with double whammy embellishments by using candy and dessert to bring in color, decor and a tasty treat. It will look good, taste good and be inexpensive!

  • Lighting! Repeat after me: “NO overhead lights!” Not sexy, too harsh, no ambiance. Instead, choose dim lamp light, candles or twinkle lights to create a romantic mood. Wrap some votive candles in lace and secure with hot glue and see DIY Flower Twinkle Lights for the perfect, romantic strand lights.

  • Create a soft place to land. DIY yourself a pillow floor or make a DIY indoor tent, fort or tipi to bring in a new cuddle-inducing area in your existing space. This will make your room feel different than it usually does and make it feel like you’re celebrating a special moment. See DIY Idea: Indoor Forts for more ideas.

Have fun! Let us know your at-home tricks and tips!
