New Year’s Resolutions

Share

2016, it’s nice to finally meet you.

I have found, all too often, that resolutions tend to be overreactions to faults seemingly identified throughout the year (especially so in the last few weeks, when the sugar dosages get liberal and the waistbands get a little less forgiving.) But trying to correct “failure” by treating it as such, berating yourself for being human, and setting strict rules just leads to … failure. I don’t want to hold myself to anyone’s standards but my own. I don’t want to perceive or treat myself with anything but positivity.

So, this year, I’m saying “thanks, but no thanks” to the resolutions, and focusing on refreshing my life instead. I’m shaking off all the external pressures, negative influences, unhappiness, stress, exhaustion, or whatever unwanted ickiness that may still be clinging to my soul after 2015. I’m making myself fresh and new again. I’m opening myself up to my flaws, embracing total honesty and transparency, and … god, I’m starting to sound like Gwyneth Paltrow, now, aren’t I?

Basically guys β€” let’s refresh together. Let’s keep it real, keep it fun, and be a loving, happy group of creative weirdos together. I love you all for exactly who you are, and I can’t wait to share more of who I am with you this year.

Thank you for your vulnerability, Kate! It was hopeful and peaceful listening to you share your heart, and I feel like I'm moving into this new year in a similar way. At a time when we are trained to set massive and at times unattainable goals to project an image, our society has it set up to take advantage of us when we are vulnerable. What a beautiful thing it is to be true to yourself, to really take the time to think about "what I want/need?" because when we take the time for ourselves, we can then be free to give and love those around us. I'm facing this new year and all the unknown with the peace that failure and success, joy and sadness, it's all apart of it, and I don't have to be afraid of it all (even though I am a lot!). But it's giving yourself the freedom to feel, to fail, to get back up and continue allowing it all to transform; it's the process. πŸ™‚ xoxo, thanks again, Kate.

Tatum how eloquently put! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. I think fear and apprehension are things we all experience, whether we voice it or not, and it's comforting to know we're all on this crazy journey of life together. I wish you all the peace and deep breaths this year. XO!

This is such a wonderful view on approaching the new year! This year I'm going to take a step back and help myself become a happier person. I've mentally drained myself the past few years and it's taken a toll, so now I'm going to take one step back (or, I guess forward?) and allow myself to be fully happy. This is obviously easier said than done, but I believe that having a positive outlook helps you become a more positive person. I'll be living and working down at Disney World for four months, which I'm excited about because as a graphic design major, it will help to get my foot in the door for a professional internship with Disney. Plus, I love looking at all different aspects of design and Disney has a lot to offer.

Wishing you, Joey, Winston, and Roxanne the happiest and healthiest new year, Kate! πŸ™‚

Danielle that's so rad!! I wish you all the luck with your new Disney gig. I think the most important thing to know about change is it often happens slowly. One choice every day to be more kind to yourself will add up to a whole world of difference. I love having your friendship and I'm here for you! Happy New Year! xoxoxoxoxoo

What a great way to approach the new year! I've never been one for making resolutions specifically for the new year, but hitting the refresh button definitely sounds like my cup of tea πŸ™‚ 2016 will be the year of the refresh button for my family for sure, with the addition of our new baby in June. So lots of preparation and adjustment for the little dude before number two arrives is top priority in our house. 2016 will have a lot of new and exciting challenges for me, so keeping a clear, level head and a positive outlook is what I'm working on πŸ™‚ thanks again for another amazing blog post! So looking forward to what Mr. Kate has planned for the new year xx
