      Hey Maddie!!

I love this boho reading corner idea!!

As far as shopping for pillows and rugs, my shopping vlogs and I can attest — Home Goods is always a great option! Their pillow section has never let me down, and you can mix and match, just like Morven said!

To make the corner have a cozy, well-lit vibe, what about hanging a pendant light? This DIY Hanging Flower Light Fixture is perfect for a bohemian theme, and brings such ethereal whimsy into the mix! Almost like a Free People store!

      I hope this helps!

      XOXO,

      Kate

        Hey Thasneem!

First of all, congrats on your wedding and new place! That is all so exciting!!

I think when you’re trying to decide what color or colors you want your space to be, there are a few things to consider: what colors are already present in the furniture or decor you have? Are you able to paint the walls? What kind of a mood are you trying to convey with the room?

While all of these factor in to your final decision, I can give you some insight about light rooms vs. dark ones!

When we designed Andrea’s bedroom for OMG We’re Coming Over, the color scheme was all whites, creams, and metallics. This brought a lot of lightness and calm into the space, while still giving it glamour and sophistication. It let the room be customizable, in case Andrea wanted to bring accent colors in.

On the other hand, when we designed Katie and Tom’s living room, we chose to have an accent wall, and some ceiling-to-floor curtains, in a deep green. This brought drama and depth to the room, and definitely anchored bolder choices in graphic art and dark colored furniture and decor.

        I hope this helps!

        XOXO,

        Kate

            Hey Rachel!

I’m so happy you like OMG We’re Coming Over!! It’s so much fun to film, I’m glad it inspires people like you!

Those walls are such a unique green, the great thing is that no matter what complementary colors you choose, your room will look so cool!

I like the vibes of the color palette you’ve talked about. Kind of like a combination of this and this, right? So cute! I would also recommending adding in a neutral or metallic into the mix to tie everything together. A cream or silver could be really cute!

As far as DIY wall art ideas, I have plenty!! This DIY Large Scale Instagram Art brings such a personal touch to the room, because it’s highlighting your own photography! This DIY String Art is also really fun, and the one we did is almost exactly in your color scheme already! These DIY Wall Storage Pockets are also great because they’re decor that doubles as organization! Who doesn’t love that?

I hope this helps!! Have fun decorating!

            XOXO,

I’m so excited for you, and beyond happy that I was able to help!! Can’t wait to see the pictures when it’s all done!

                Hey Greta!!

Though I haven’t had a lot of experience removing wallpaper, I’ve always done it manually — with some solvents and my own two DIY-ing hands!! If you’re going to pursue a machine, I would read reviews very carefully before spending the time and money!!

As far as remover sprays and solvents, DIF is really great! You can get it online, or at local stores like Home Depot or Walmart!

                I hope this helps!

                    Hey Madison!!

I love that jacket!! So cute!

I’m a huge fan of jackets as key ingredients in outfits. Layering is just so fun, and always smart if you could possibly be chilly!

My favorite way to wear a jacket like that (I have a very similar one myself!) is with … a minidress!

In this OOTD, I wear a loose, casual jacket over a form-fitting dress with some socks and boots for a daytime look that you could anywhere that doesn’t have too strict of a dress code!

For a more nighttime take on styling a jacket like this, check out this OOTD! I pair a jacket with a black dress and black heels for a look that can take you from dinner to a party to whatever the evening has in store!

You have to let me know how you style your new jacket! Post in the outfit forum!!

                      Hey!!

I LOVE that aquarium idea!! So much juxtaposition, yaaaaas!

Besides that, I have to say, I love that fireplace! It’s so beautiful, and so many people would be jealous that you have such a cool, fun feature in your room!

I keep candles in my fireplace at the house, which still feels like a play on the intention of the feature, but in a much more elective and stylish way. It could be fun, also, to use the space to display fairy lights in a new way — maybe wrapping them around logs?! (Kind of like we did with this drift wood branch last Christmas!)

I love plants in a room, and two plants on either side of the fireplace could be so cute!! You have a lot of open space there, so you could get really creative with the height and shape of the plants you choose!

                      XOXO,

                      Kate

                      Mr. Kate
                      Keymaster

                        Hey there!!

I know the confusion you’re talking about!! As a blonde, people say we shouldn’t wear yellow, but I love yellow! How do I know which yellows won’t clash with my hair and which ones will make me look like a banana lady!?!

I heard once, and have found that it is true, that pink looks good on everyone. No matter your skin tone, pink is a universally flattering shade. It’s also very in fashion right now, especially baby pink and dusty rose tones (kind of like the color we painted the office!)

Black and white are also universally flattering shades that you simply cannot go wrong with!!

If you’re looking to find new colors that you look good in, it’s all about the experimentation! Go to a clothing store and try on some items in colors you haven’t tried before. There’s no investment, and you could discover your new power color!

But the most important factor is what you feel best in. If a neon shade of blue makes you feel electric and alive, that is absolutely what you should wear! Fashion rules exist to guide people, but there is no rule that absolutely must be abided by!

I hope this helps! Have fun finding some new colors to rock!

                        XOXO,
                        Kate

                          Hey Lauren!!

Thought I haven’t lived with that color green for the past few years, I really like that color! I see how, with the white and lavender and different wood accents, your room might not have turned out like you want. But!! More than that, I see opportunity!

The colors (minus the purple bedding) you have lend themselves perfectly to one of my favorite design looks right now — the Jungalow!! See these pictures for reference/ inspiration:

The great thing about this Jungalow design is that it very much favors the green and different shades of wood that you already have going on. Throw in some textured accent rugs, a cool metallic lamp (maybe this pendant one that we used in the Dorm Decor, 3 Ways video?!) and live plants (my absolute favorite design touch) to make the space fresh and lively!

As for that bedside table, you can keep it white and add some small succulents, antiqued gold accents, and maybe a DIY Concrete Lamp, or you can take a note from the first picture and paint it the same color as your walls! If you feel like it stands out too much, a touch of monochrome could take care of that, and bring some modernism into the mix.

I hope all of this helps!!

                          XOXO,

                          Kate

                            Hey Emily!!

So exciting! A new room to decorate and make all yours!!

First things first, it looks like you could use some storage in the closet. Small closets and cabinets can be made super functional and stylish with a good selection of storage bins. I really like the selection from places like Home Goods or Target, but check online shops too!

For the bed, I think it would look great to brighten up the space by getting a light colored or patterned bedding. Something with spark and that brings energy into the room. If you want a headboard, try DIY-ing one instead of buying it! You can use the technique I did for the DIY Tufted Bench and make a fun day out of it!

If you’re keeping the TV, you should mount it on the wall, which creates space on top of the dresser for accessories storage, flowers, a lamp, and nice decor items!

That window is so cute and narrow, so play it up with a curtain rod and floor-length curtain in a color or print that complements what you chose for the bedding. And, speaking of things that complement the bedding — what about an area rug? A cute rug under or alongside your bed will make the space feel oh-so-cozy.

Lastly, a side table!! There are lots of great options in the stores with or you could DIY one, Upcycle one, or even give a thrifted one a cool marble-topped upgrade!

I hope all this helps!! Let me know how it comes out!!

                            XOXO,

                            Kate

                                  Hey Gabrielle!

Shelfs can be tricky, but where there’s a will, there’s a DIY solution!!

I’m not sure if you’ve seen Upcycl’d but I made over an old wicker bookshelf into a black and white colorblocked floral wonder. Maybe you could do some colorblocking like that with your shelf to bring some personality in!!

Another option is just painting the shelf, adding trim, or leaving it as is and composing what you put on it into a really awesome vignette! I know that you need your shelves to be functional, but with one or two cute decorative items and some sweet styling, it will really look special!

For your inspiration, I have a video on vignettes here and a blog post about how to style shelves (with some of my favorite pieces to shop) here!

I hope this is helpful! Let me know how it comes out!
