      Hey!

Thanks for posting!! You should consider privacy film! It is a great option that we recently used in Lilly Singh’s office! There are so many different options, like this clean frosted glass look or this fun mosaic one. It’s great because it lets light in without sacrificing privacy! No creepers here!

      Hope this helps!!

        Hi Tyler!
Ooh what a great find! It sounds like your space is pretty clean and simple, so I think this couch will work really great! Since the colors and pattern of this couch are so bold, keeping the other elements in the room more subdued is a great way to let this piece shine. I think a white shag rug, metal or mirrored coffee table, brass floor lamp, and some clean, modern wall art would compliment it perfectly — maybe even a pop of pastel pink somewhere if you’re feeling crazy! Hope this helps and send us photos of your finished room!

        XOXO,

          Hey Luise!!

Congrats on your place!! Your bedspread is really cool, and it seems like you have a really cute space!

From the pictures, it seems like just a few tiny touches could make the biggest difference! I would start by hanging that mirror that you currently have propped up against the wall. Painting that one wall as an accent could be a nice touch, too (if you are able to paint in your space!)

As far as the wall with the chair, I would get a side table to sit next to the chair and then top it with a pretty plant or two! Plants always make a space look and feel more lived in and even if your room doesn’t get a lot of sunlight there are plenty of greens that grow best in shade! A side table with a snake plant or pothos plant (if you like the draping look) could fill that emptiness in perfectly!

Hope this helps! Have fun decorating!

            Hey Selly!

Thanks for posting! Even though your sofa seems extra teeny tiny right now, once you start filling the room in more, it will definitely come into its own.

I would start by getting a big area rug. A shag rug could add some coziness and upscale cute to the carpeted floors, and ones like this moroccan print rug are great because they go with almost anything (and would look especially nice with those copper accents.)

With so much open space, a coffee table is key to creating a nice conversation area. I would look for a round coffee table, which can take up some space without dwarfing the sofa you have established. Accent chairs could also be a nice completion to that little lounge area, in time!

Then, I think once you start adding more things like pillows, throw blankets, and wall art (plants, too!), your room will be looking great in no time and no one will ever stop to think about the size of your couch!

Hope this helps! Have fun decorating!

              Hi Abby,

Thanks for posting! It depends on the color of the decor in your room, but I am always a fan of a natural shag rug! One in a white tone could play well off of the other neutral colors in your room and not overwhelm the eye.

If you wanted to pull in the gray tones from the wall, try a rug like this one with a trellis pattern! They are super chic as is, and will complement and look great with a lot of different design styles and furniture options!

Hope this helps! Have fun decorating!

                Hey Heidy,

Thanks for posting! I think finding your personal style can be a really fun process — you just get to keep trying new, exciting things until you find what fits your personality and lifestyle best!

I’m sure you already have some factors in your life (climate, school/ work, etc.) that will give parameters for your search. It’s then just finding what is appropriate, but makes you feel your best! I often tell people who don’t know what design style they want for their room to start a Pinterest board where they collect a bunch of images that inspire them, and I think this is good advice for finding out your personal style, as well! You’ll be able to find common themes between the images you pin that will help you find what kind of clothes you like! Then, it’s all about finding them and finding out how they work for you and your life!

Essential pieces differ for everyone, but leopard print is definitely one of my wardrobe essentials!

                Hope this helps! Have fun!

                  Hey LeTouye,

Sounds exciting!! I think there isn’t a quota per say of “too much” teal, but I would play around with different tones of the color. A bright, bold teal is great for one statement piece, and in smaller accents, but if you want to have teal play a larger role in the room, I would focus on playing with more washed out or paler (or darker!) tones.

The white and gray will be nice neutrals to play the color of the teal off of. I think you’re onto a great concept! Excited to see how it comes out!

                  Hope this helps!

                    Hey Thu!!

Thanks for your question! I would say drawing is not a required, or the most important skill! There are a lot of tools that can help you create floor plans — we use SmartDraw for ours!

As long as you have creativity and vision that you can execute, drawing won’t slow you down! I recently talked about how I became a self-taught interior designer, and you learn a lot more about the little interior design tips and tricks by watching that video!! Best of luck!!

                      Hey Kayla!

Thanks for reaching out, glad we could brighten your days! Great floor plan and mood boards!! I’m so impressed!!

I notice that all of your inspiration photos have white walls, which can be a way to mesh the spaces — with all white walls, then bringing colored accents in through pillows, wall art, shelf and table accessories in the living room and kitchen. Even though you think you’re working with two distinct different styles, they’re actually friendly! The clean and bright style complements the more boho vibes. Try working some of the bright colors into the boho space in either accents or in lighter, more washed out tones to create a relationship between the two spaces!

A good example is the living room of our lovely contributor, Natalie! She created a beautiful, eclectic bohemian space. I especially love her aqua chaise as an example of getting those colors into a boho room. Good luck let us know how it comes out!

                      XOXO,

                      Mr. Kate & Team

                        Hi Kati!

Thanks for posting! I completely understand this feeling, a whole new house can be a lot to plan for!

If you haven’t already, I would start by collecting inspiration for each room and for your interior design style as a whole. Make a Pinterest board for each room, and one for the whole home. There, you can start to collect images you like and that inspire you, and soon you’ll start to see the direction for each space taking shape.

When it comes to moving into the house and manifesting those ideas, I would say to focus on necessity. It’s a process and none of the rooms need to look polished and complete right away! Start with the pieces you’ll need to go about your daily life — the bed, the sofa, the kitchen table, for example — and make the rooms functional first! Then, you can start filling in with paint and the furniture and accents that will make your home reflect your style and become a total happy place!

I hope this helps! If you haven’t already, watching OMG We Bought A House might be helpful because it follows Joey and I through the same process of moving into and decorating a new home!

                        XOXO,

                            Hey Rehana,

Thanks for posting! What color are the walls currently? It seems like white or an off-white color would be a good option to freshen up the space. I’m always a big fan of a crisp white wall!

If you want to bring some depth or pattern to the light-colored walls, you could do something like this DIY Stencil we used in Andrea’s room, painting the pattern on in the same color paint just with a different finish!

                            Hope this helps!

                              Hey!

Thanks for posting! Kaeli is right, I think that Dorm Decor video could be really helpful for you — at least to give you ideas of things you like and would want to implement into the space!

From what I can see in the picture, your room already is put together with main (and cute!) pieces, and is organized, which is great! What you should focus on now are the smaller accessories and accents that will bring personality and pull the whole thing together! Some throw pillows for the bed and some art on the walls would go a long way!

Also I can’t tell from the picture if you have a side table next to your bed, but if you don’t, I would grab one and set up a cute thrifted or vintage lamp on it!

Hope this helps! Have fun decorating!

                              XOXO,

                                Hi Sophie!

Thanks for watching the OMG We Bought a House videos!! Glad you like them!

So exciting that you get to design your bedroom! I would tell you to start by heading to Pinterest and making a board out of images that inspire you for your room. They could be indicative of the vibe, or have ideas you’d like to try, whatever! It’s much easier to plan when you have all your ideas consolidated into one place.

For minimalist design, I would recommend keeping a very limited color palette. Focus on ways to keep surfaces organized and accessories impactful but scarce. Eva’s bedroom is a great example of a recent minimalist design I did!

Good luck and have fun with your room! Let me know if you have any more questions!

                                XOXO,

                                  Hi Seema!

Thanks for posting! Charlotte, you have great instincts to go with monochromatic organization — I completely agree!

What I would do first is take everything off the shelves and go through it. Get rid of what you don’t need, because I’m sure you don’t need every thing on there! Once you’ve decluttered and gone through everything, it will be easier to see the themes that you can organize things by.

The white paper boxes we used in Daisy’s Lair in the office are great for organization. They come in smaller and larger sizes and can be labeled, which is so helpful! I would recommend using a mix of those, and maybe some magazine holders for papers depending on your needs, to get the majority of things organized and away!

Then you can have a little fun with some decorative accents or more fun organizational items! Check out the desk we set up for Eman for inspiration on how to bring some beautiful items in for storage!

                                  Best of luck!

                                  XOXO,

                                  Kate
