      Hey there!

Thanks for posting! If you’re trying to decide what you want to do with your room, I would start by making a Pinterest board specifically for that space. Save pictures that you like, ones that have ideas you’d like to implement, and just rooms that you’d like yours to emulate. Once you have a good collection of pictures, you can use those to find common themes or ideas that you like! It’s all about your taste, and this is a great way to find out what you like.

Then, it’s all about finding ways to bring those ideas in to your room. You have a good space to work with, and good priorities in wanting to keep it clean and organized, so I’m sure it will turn out amazing!

As far as organization tips, I think the most important thing is that you have enough storage for everything and a place that each thing goes. If you find that you need some more storage, I have tutorials for some storage solutions that are cute as decor too! The DIY Wall Pockets and the DIY Crate Wall from Jessie’s place that we just did for OMG We’re Coming Over are both great options!

Good luck with your room! Let me know if you have any more questions!

      XOXO,

        Hey Krista!

Thanks for posting these pics! Total inspiration!! You did such a great job! That online cabinet trick is key for a kitchen renovation on a budget. We did it for our kitchen, too!

Hope you’re enjoying your new kitchen after all the hard work you put into it!

          Hey Jordan,

Congrats on the new place! That is always an exciting change. I definitely understand the odd juggle of wanting to decorate and make a place yours completely, but also knowing that it’s temporary and you’ll have to move out!

I suggest focusing on pieces and things that can be easily installed or added, and taken away (like wall art, throw pillows, rugs, etc.), which end up usually being the pieces that take a room and make it a home anyways. When picking these items — if you don’t already have them — try to find designs and pieces that you can see yourself bringing with you to your next place and beyond that. It is less intimidating to buy for a temporary home if you know that the items you fill it with are coming with you after!

If you still want to fill in your place a little more — like if there is a corner that is just begging for a floor lamp — go the thrift route and find unique pieces for affordable prices. If you’re not planning on keeping the item, it doesn’t have to be perfect! And, you can always sell it or donate it back to the thrift store when you move!

Hope this helps! Have fun decorating your place!

          XOXO,

            Hey Taylor!

Thanks for posting!! I love the minimalist look, and it’s definitely super achievable with a few small touches!

If your walls aren’t white, I would recommend painting them a white or close-to-white color to cover your room in a fresh, clean brightness. That window sounds beautiful! Depending on the height of the window, it could be really cool to put a bench underneath it that you can add pillows or plants to. (Kind of like in Eva’s room, except her bench was built-in!)

As far as your floor, I would see the carpet could be covered up by a nice white shag rug before you spend the time and money on redoing the whole thing! Just covering up some of it could really change the room, and you’ll notice it a lot less!

For your storage bed (which, by the way, is such a good idea for a minimalist room to keep the clutter at bay!), I have found good, affordable options at Wayfair or Ikea. A thing to keep in mind is to make sure that the drawers are sturdy. I also suggest getting a headboard to anchor the bed, since the storage bases can look very bulky and out-of-place without a headboard to balance!

Good luck with your room! Let me know if you have any more questions!

              Hi Rodelene,

Thanks for posting! Congrats on your new apartment!

It would be super helpful if you could send me pictures of your space, and some inspiration images too or ideas of what you want to accomplish! Just upload them into this forum thread and we can go from there!

                Hey Alexa,

Thanks for posting!! I’m so excited for your new home adventures and you clearly already have so much planned! It’s going to look amazing!!

I love those chairs you’ve selected, they’re so sleek yet fun! I have a round kitchen table at home, in a smaller, angular area of the home like your table will be in, and the circular shape is great! I like it because it gives the room a lot of space, which, if you opt for the oval table, is something I would keep in mind, as it could push you closer to the walls on either end.

An oval table will have two sides with pretty straight lines, so if you do decide on that shape, consider a table cloth or runner to bring some draping and softness into play.

As far as the table itself, I would opt for something that really grounds the space. The kitchen table is the heart of that room, it’s where everyone gathers, so it should have a certain gravitas to it. That’s not to say that you need to go find a big, heavy piece of furniture! Just opt for something with a presence that can ground the sleeker and lighter kitchen chairs you’ve picked out. This pin, from my Places and Spaces Pinterest board, is a good example of that type of table/ chair dynamic!

It really sounds like you have great instincts for this kitchen already, so good luck and keep me updated on how it turns out!

                XOXO

                  Hey!

Thanks for posting! It sounds like you have a vision already for your room, and that it will be very fun and colorful!

The colors you mentioned remind me a lot of Jessie Paege’s new apartment makeover, that we did for the OMG We’re Coming Over episode that was released yesterday! I have links to all of the items I shopped for that room in the video description, and will have a shopping vlog that explains the whole design and shopping process released next week! (I can post the link here when it is released!)

                  Have fun decorating your room!

                    Hey Alyse,

Thanks for posting! That is a great floor tile, I’m sure it will look amazing in that room!

Since this room is an entry way into the home, I think you can use it to declare your style as someone is coming in. If you have a bolder style, a color on the wall (really, most colors would look good off of a dark gray floor but since it is a cooler tone, I would search for a cool tone color) would be such a welcome! But if your style is a little more modern or minimalist, keeping the walls white and just hanging a chic coat rack would be really nice too.

Hope this helps! Good luck decorating!

                    XOXO,

                      Hey Anja!!

Thanks for posting!! As far as stores to shop in, Etta is spot on that Target and Home Goods are great picks! Online I also like Wayfair, Overstock, and Joss and Main. If you’re looking to go to the actual store, West Elm and CB2 are great choices as well, and I’ve been having such good luck at Living Spaces lately! Ikea is always a solid bet, too! Great for that modern or Scandinavian aesthetic. For wall art, I would also recommend going to thrift stores or flea markets to see if you can find something vintage and unique!

And yes, we do ship to Germany!! That’s such a thoughtful gesture of you! What a good friend!

Hope this helped! Good luck shopping!

                      XOXO,

                        Hey there!

Thanks for posting!! I love your analogy and believe in your BeautyMark-ness!! When I created the Freckles BeautyMarks, and then the Color Freckles BeautyMarks after them, they were a way of celebrating the natural beauty of freckles. An enhancement for people who already had them or a way to get in on the fun for those who didn’t.

So, likewise, I think you should really act and dress and live your life as a celebration of who you are. You are clearly creative and thoughtful and unique, and all of those things make you special and shouldn’t be hidden away or compromised. I understand the nervousness that could come from wearing your favorite looks out in public, but this is coming from the girl who has been dressing crazy since I was a kid! If you haven’t read A Hot Glue Gun Mess, I think a few of the stories in there could be helpful for you to embrace your own way of dressing. (Not to mention DIYs to make even more cute looks!)

My parting advice to you is that you are already a BeautyMark!! Don’t dress for other people, or spend too much time thinking about what they perceive you as. You don’t judge them for not wearing stickers on their face or fun hair accessories, so why should you let these people who are prone to expressing themselves differently impact how you show your shine? You’ll have more fun being who you want to be, and everyone will notice that!!

                        Have fun with your style!

                        XOXO,

                        Mr. Kate & Team

                          Hi Mariana,

Thanks for posting!! Oddly shaped windows can be very tricky!!

I have DIY-ed two different window solutions in OMG We’re Coming Over that could be helpful for you!! One is the window film that we used in Lilly Singh’s office. The benefit to this film is that you can take the blinds off and let light in through the window without having to worry about anyone peeking through!

The other DIY, which you could actually pair with the window film, is the Mosaic Arched Window Frame I made with Meghan Rienks!! This project is great for uniquely shaped windows because you’re creating your own window frame instead of needing to search all over for one that fits your needs (if it even exists!)

I hope these ideas can work or inspire you for your window!

                          XOXO,

                            Hey Cristal,

Thanks for posting!! Your idea sounds really refreshing and cute and fortunately, repainting furniture is very doable!! In an episode of UpCycl’d, I sand off the black finish of a sideboard and repaint it to give it a brand new white look. I think the video and corresponding DIY steps will really help you! Check it out here!

As far as the sticks you’re referencing, are they what are pictured above? Those seem to be part of the design of the furniture so I’m not sure there is much you can do! Once you repaint the piece, you may feel differently about them!! That negative space could also be a cute place to string some twinkle lights, if those are your thing!

                            Hope this helps! Have fun!

                            XOXO,

                              Hey Thasneem!

Thanks for posting! Whats great about what you this room and the furniture that you have is that you truly have a lot of freedom. Since the walls are white and the furniture a neutral dark brown, you aren’t tied to any pre-existing color or scheme when decorating.

These two pictures are from my Places & Spaces Pinterest board, where I have saved a lot of rooms that I find inspiring. You’ll see that both feature a brown wood bed, but one opts for a more calm, gray and neutral palette, and the other brings in more pops of colors.

This room reminds me a lot of the room we designed for MyLifeAsEva, which also had a wood bed and minimalist, cool toned palette. This shows you the option of having a painted wall, and also a carpet. I love rugs in rooms, but especially bedrooms to help bring that cozy feeling.

This room, on the other hand, uses the same base of a brown wood bed and incorporates pops of color and other wood elements to create a brighter look. Even though there is a small sheepskin rug here, a bare floor also can look good if you want to go more modern!

I hope these pictures can help inspire you to find the aesthetic you’re going for in your room! Have fun decorating!

I also helped Chriselle Lim with her bookshelves recently and we made a shopping vlog for that, too! We especially focused on thrift store finds and plants in that video, so if those are your style, you’ll probably pick up some tips!

                                  Hey guys!

I definitely agree with Nat that going through all of your stuff is a great place to start your redecorating process. Everything is piled up, so it must be hard to even realize what you have! Sort through it all, and this will help you not only eliminate what is not needed but organize the remaining things into themes that can then be put away accordingly.

Painting your furniture is a great way to get that neutral, minimalist feel, and if you still find that you don’t have enough storage, consider getting a set of nice white baskets for above the tall storage unit or a clean white bookshelf for that corner that is filled with things! Storage is definitely key but it can also be great to design and decorate! I helped Chriselle Lim decorate some shelves in her home, for a point of reference for that mix of storage and design.

Hope this helps! Best of luck!

                                  XOXO,
